This past weekend, RTR participated in the 26th annual Sussex Scrimage, a “week zero” competition, hosted by team #537, Charger Robotics. This scrimmage replicates what a real competition would look like, with 3-robot alliances and autonomous time periods, and allows teams a place to test their robots.

The Sussex Scrimmage was a great learning opportunity for all of our students, as for many, it was their first experience at a FRC event. Our students took part in informational conferences to learn more about things such as the Impact award, Scouting at competitions, and the FIRST Leadership Award (formerly Dean’s List).

Students also had a chance to try out different drive team arrangements, so that we can decide which teams work best for competition, and set up an official drive team for the rest of the season. We also tested our scouting system, and learned a bit about competition photography.

We are very proud of our robot’s performance at this competition, since we only had minor technical issues, which we used this scrimmage to find. Furthermore, we left the competition with many ideas on how to improve our robot for our next competition, the Week 3, Appleton District event.

The Appleton District event will take place on March 20th-22nd, and RTR cannot wait. Now, we will continue working on our robot– making changes and improvements, as well as doing drivers’ practice! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our team at this event, and thank you to our sponsors and mentors!
