When disaster strikes, communities come together to lend a helping hand. In response to the hurricanes in our Southern states, Round Table Robotics decided to partner with our local elementary schools- Cedar Hills, Deerfield, and Meadowview- to hold a competition: which school could raise the most supplies? This contest sparked excitement among students, teachers, and schools alike. Collecting the items was a huge success, With their help, multiple boxes full of donations were packed, labeled, and shipped off to North Carolina. The winner of the competition was Cedar Hills Elementary School. Congratulations! We are impressed with the generosity of all of the participating schools.
While collecting the items was a huge success, the next challenge was getting them to North Carolina. After our original logistic plans fell through, RTR was fortunate to partner with The Shopiere Tap (https://www.facebook.com/TheShopiereTap), a community restaurant running a similar drive. With their help, all of our donations were loaded onto a semi-truck and shipped off to North Carolina, ensuring the supplies reached the affected areas as soon as possible. Big thanks to Bill, the owner of The Shopiere Tap for making the transportation so easy.Â
On November 9th, we sent a group of our students to Marquette University to build Inclusive Play Toys for children with disabilities. They even talked some friends outside of robotics to join them in this incredible project. This helped them gain wiring and soldering experience well helping the community. There is another opportunity to work with this group on November 23 from 10 am to 3 pm. Check out https://www.marquette.edu/news-center/2024/engineering-to-host-first-of-two-adaptive-toy-build-days-nov-9.php if you are interested in helping build some toys.
We wrapped up our fundraiser partnership with the Oak Creek Optimist Club and wish everyone who purchased a ticket good luck this season.
Our friends at PMMI, The Association form Packaging and Processing Technologies https://www.pmmi.org/ Invited us demo our competition robot at PACKEXPO a trade show uniting the World of Packaging and Processing. Hosted at McCormick Place Convention center in Chicago, Illinois the students got to see many examples of industrial automation. They learned that what students are doing today will have real world application tomorrow. We also got to visit many of our sponsor's booths. Not to mention the ride there and back was a educational adventure.
Aside from all of this, RTR has been very busy finishing our practice field and settling into our new space for the 24/25 season, but it's safe to say The Forge is now running and ready for the upcoming build season. The district has given us an incredible opportunity to use this space to grow and improve our program and we will not let them down.
We want to invite everyone to see the new space in person, Round Table Robotics will be hosting an open house on Thursday December 5th, 3:00pm- 7:00pm. There you will get a student-guided tour of our shop, you will see what kind of projects our team does, and see a demo of our robots on our new full practice field! We hope to see you there!
